We have moved!

We would like to welcome you and your child to Upton Priory Pre-school.

EYFS

Our Pre-school and Reception children are now in our school building where the children have access to a high quality indoor and outdoor learning environment which is designed specifically to meet the children’s needs.  We have a classroom which is the main base for our 3- and 4-year olds to start their day and to have their key group learning time. It is an area where children can follow their curiosities, develop their creativity and think critically.

Throughout the day the children will have access to the EYFS classrooms which are shared with our Reception children as they play and learn alongside each other within the indoor and outdoor provision. In addition, they will take part in activities within the lower and upper school buildings and will have the opportunity to explore the extensive school grounds as part of guided group activities.

Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS) Curriculum

A child’s experience in the early years has a major impact on their future life chances. What a child learns during their time within the EYFS (Pre-School; Reception) forms the building blocks upon which all future learning will take place. At Upton Priory School we believe every child deserves the best possible start in life to enable him/ her to fulfil their potential.

Here at Upton Priory School, we pride ourselves on our child-centred approach to learning within a happy, safe and secure environment. We provide children with a broad and balanced curriculum and carefully planned activities enable children to apply their newly acquired knowledge and skills within their independent learning. It is because of our careful balance between child-initiated and adult-led activities that the children flourish within our setting.

How my child will be learning

Your child will be learning skills, acquiring new knowledge and demonstrating their understanding through 7 areas of learning and development.

Children should mostly develop the 3 prime areas first. These are:

  • Communication and language;
  • Physical development; and
  • Personal, social and emotional development.

The prime areas are those most essential for your child’s healthy development and future learning.

As children grow, the prime areas will help them to develop skills in 4 specific areas. These are:

  • Literacy;
  • Mathematics;
  • Understanding the world; and
  • Expressive arts and design.

These 7 areas are used to plan your child’s learning and activities. The professionals teaching and supporting your child will make sure that the activities are suited to your child’s unique needs.

Children in the EYFS learn by playing and exploring, being active, and through creative and critical thinking which takes place both indoors and outdoors.

This money allows us to buy: ingredients to make snacks, messy play resources (e.g. shaving foam, hair gel etc.), craft resources (e.g. googly eyes, pompoms etc.) and any additional resources we require to enhance your child’s learning experiences.

We also ask for contributions for our junk modelling area e.g. cereal boxes, bottle tops, plastic bottles etc.

Working in Partnership with Parents and Carers

We work best when we work in partnership with our families. Therefore, we try to involve parents and carers in their child’s learning as much as possible. Here are some examples of how we involve parents and carers in the learning process:

Online learning journal (Tapestry). Home-school ‘Busy’ book Collaborative learning events Parent/ carer information events
