August 2018

We hope you are enjoying the last few weeks of the summer holidays. We are looking forward to seeing you all in September and hearing about your summer adventures.

Don’t forget to bring in your PE kit as we will need it during the first week back and have two PE sessions every week – white t-shirt, blue/black shorts and trainers. Also spare socks for girls who wear tights.

Please could the children also remember their named water bottles.

Thank you and see you soon.

September 2018

Welcome back. Our Year 2 team are now:-

Mrs Anderson –

Mrs Dumbleton –

Miss O’Neill –

Miss Stanley –

The children have all settled really well and have enjoyed catching up with their friends.

18.9.18 – Last night we welcomed parents to our ‘Meet the teacher’ evening where we discussed our up and coming World War II topic as well as homework and our behaviour/reward system. Thank you to those parents who were able to attend. If you were unable to attend we will be sending home an overview of our Year 2 curriculum this week. We will also attach the slide show of the evening to our web page.

28.9.18 – MacMillan Cake Sale, Friday 28.09.18 – all cakes and biscuits gratefully received.

Homework for the following weeks

The children will have a written English challenge each week, as well as spellings to learn and handwriting to practise. We are working hard to remember to use our ‘High 5’s’ – capital letters, finger spaces, careful spellings, push ups and full stops. Our maths homework is currently being set through Mathletics (your child’s password and log in is inside their reading record).¬† Please can we have the homework back by Wednesday of each week (or before). We are continuing to ask that your child reads several times each week. If your child reads 4 or more times they will receive a raffle ticket. At the end of each half term a draw is made where your child has the chance to win a reading prize. Thank you.

Homework – will be handed out on a Friday and collected in the following Wednesday (or before).

Your child is expected to read for 15 – 20 minutes per night in which your child should develop their reading fluency, vocabulary so he/she understands the meaning of unfamiliar words and comprehension skills. It is really important that you support your child at home by reading with him/her on a daily basis.

Your child will have spellings to practise. The spellings will link to what they are learning in school and will be checked through testing and by seeing the words spelt correctly within work.
