Welcome to Year 2!
We have Mr Winter, Miss O’Neill and Miss Stanley in our team, and we are really excited to welcome you back to school. We have got lots of exciting things planned for this first term- culminating in our trip to the Air Raid Shelter in December!
For our English lessons this half-term, we are focussing on the story of ‘Bob, The Man on the Moon.’ We are going to explore this exciting story and find out what adventures Bob will undertake. Along the way, we are going to write our own versions of the story, seeing what adventures these characters will go on!
During the Autumn Term, we are going to be working on our place value, addition, subtraction and understanding measurements. In order to support our Maths lessons, the children are still available to access the fantastic Mathletics website to support their learning. Your child will also now have access to Times Tables Rock Stars, another great way for your child to practise their times tables. Please see below the links to these websites:
During our fascinating afternoon lessons, we are focussing on two great topics in Autumn!
In our Science lessons, we are going to be exploring our bodies: finding out what it takes to have a healthy body and how our body is put together.
In History, the children are going to be finding out about life during World War II in Britain. We are going to explore the life of an evacuee (including meeting somebody who lived as one during the War), how rationing impacted on Britain and investigate how World War II was played out. This topic will conclude with an exciting visit to the Air Raid Shelter in Stockport, where we will all dress in authentic clothing and live the day as somebody would have done during 1940.
Please see below our routines for the week.

Homework is given out every Friday and is always due in on the following Wednesday (unless stated otherwise). Please can you also ensure that you read with your child for 5-10 minutes every evening. This approach of doing a little but often will really support your child’s development in reading.
