HOMEWORK
Each week children will receive maths activities that they can complete on SUMDOG. They will also be required to complete their reading daily.
Throughout the year we will also send home some fun topic related projects for you to do. Reading books will go out each Friday and we would like them to be returned on the following Thursday.
READING BOOKS and DIARIES
Children will take home a reading book each Friday. Please can books be returned to school by the following Thursday. Teachers will be checking their reading record books weekly to interact with their reading. This may be in the form of a comment or sticker. Children should be reading at home at least three times per week. Teachers are monitoring the amount of reading the children are doing each week.
Class Reading Spine
Here is our incredible Class Reading Spine! These books are proudly displayed on our class bookshelf.
We have chosen these as ambitious texts which cover a range of genres, themes and characters. They include narrative, poetry and non-fiction texts, to ensure our children’s reading diet is widely varied.
The class teacher will read these aloud to the children at the end of every school day. If your child particularly enjoys one of these texts, you may wish to purchase other books from the same author (many of which can be found in our school library).
LUNCHES and WATER BOTTLES
We ask for children each day to bring in a water bottle of their own with fresh water inside. Children can access their bottle throughout the day and they will be sent home at the end of the day to be cleaned.
Each day we will ask the children what they would like for lunch. They will have a couple of options to choose from, as well as a packed lunch from home if they prefer. School dinners are all free of charge in KS1.
PE
Children will participate in two PE lessons each week. Please can you ensure that your child has appropriate kit in school ready for the lessons. We will send the kit home at the end of every half term to be washed.
PE Kits should contain- White T-Shirt, Navy Blue/Black Shorts and pumps or trainers.
We recommend having a pair of trainers in school as school pumps can often be slippy on grass. Even though the winter months are close, we want to get the children outside as much as possible.

Emailing your class teacher
At Upton Priory, we ensure that our staff have a good work-life balance. As teachers, we enjoy the ability to communicate with you via email. We believe that it allows parents to ask important questions or raise any concerns you may have. However, we encourage our staff to only answer emails during working hours 8:30-5:30pm. Therefore, if we do not respond on a particular evening, we will do our best to get back to you the following day. We thank you for your understanding on this.
Book Recommendations
Please follow the below link which will take you to a document containing a reading recommendation list for your child’s class.
We would encourage you to share these with your child(ren) and let us know if you have read/enjoyed any of the books on the list.
We would love to hear what you have been reading!
