This summer term, we will be learning all about the Incas and Machu Pichu in our history topic. This will take many forms over the course of term, as we find out about the Incas way of life and the invasion of the Spanish conquistadors, which effectively wiped out this ancient civilisation. In Geography, we will be looking at what makes a country appealing to live in? Pupils will compare and contrast the physical and human features of a region in the UK with South America and continue to develop their understanding and correct use of vocabulary and name and locate a few major cities in each country in the UK while identifying a range of human and physical characteristics (mountains, rivers, coastlines).
Along with our cross-curricular writing about the Incas and South America, we will be making links with our R.E topic using the story of Rama and Sita to right our own Hindu stories. In addition to this we will also spend the final few weeks researching ‘Just So’ stories before creating our own stories involving animals.
In Maths, we will be beginning our year 5 summer term looking at decimals, fractions, percentages, before we begin to look at shape and probability. We will also continue to revise the four main operations and word problems.
Much of our work in maths this year is aided by a sound knowledge of times tables, so please help your children practice in any way you can at home.
All children should have a password for Times tables rocks, as well as a purple mash password. Your child should be accessing these sites at least once a week at home to help practice their tables.
