READING BOOKS and DIARIES

Children are expected to read every night. Please sign your child’s reading record whenever you read with them at home. Reading records are checked each week and monitored by Mr Rogers and Mrs Sleath, who will be in touch if they feel your child could be reading more at home.

Class Reading Spine

Here is our incredible Class Reading Spine! These books are proudly displayed on our class bookshelf.
We have chosen these as ambitious texts which cover a range of genres, themes and characters. They include narrative, poetry and non-fiction texts, to ensure our children’s reading diet is widely varied.

The class teacher will read these aloud to the children at the end of every school day. If your child particularly enjoys one of these texts, you may wish to purchase other books from the same author (many of which can be found in our school library).

LUNCHES and WATER BOTTLES

We ask for children each day to bring in to school a water bottle of their own with fresh water inside, children have access to their bottles throughout the day and they will be sent home at the end of the day to be cleaned.

Each day, we will ask children to select what they would like for their lunch. Lunch choices can be accessed on the website.

PE

Children will participate in PE lessons each week. PE days will be dependent on our Week1/2 timetable. Please can you ensure children have the appropriate kits in school at all times in case of opportunities for extra curricular sport or if the PE day changes. We recommend you send in kits at the start of each half term and we will send them home at the end of each half term to be cleaned.

PE Kits should contain – White T-shirt, Navy Blue/Black Shorts/trackie bottoms and pumps or trainers – trainers being preferable for outdoor PE.

SWIMMING

As part of the PE curriculum, all classes will attend swimming lessons at Macclesfield Leisure Centre.

Swimming lessons take place on a Friday afternoon, so please remember your child will need to bring his/her swimming kit (including swimming hat) and towel to school every Friday when it is their allocated slot. This term, Mrs Dorsett’s class are swimming.

ENGLISH

In English, we aim to inspire children to love writing and explore their creativity and imagination through a variety of different texts and writing formats! This term’s English will be based on the book The Iron Man by Ted Hughes. We will write a police report and a suspenseful section of narrative.
